With an Apple Watch Series 4 or later and fall detection enabled, your parent’s watch can detect hard falls and send an alert. If they can’t respond or are unconscious, it automatically calls emergency services and notifies their emergency contacts. Best of all, fall detection is included with the Apple Watch and doesn’t require any extra fees.
To activate fall detection, simply open the Apple Watch app on their iPhone, go to the “My Watch” tab, select “Emergency SOS,” and toggle the “Fall Detection” switch to the “On” position. They can also set up emergency contacts in the same section of the app.
Remember, while fall detection is a helpful feature, it’s not always perfect. If your parent falls and needs assistance, they should manually call for help if they’re able to do so. Fall detection should never replace seeking medical attention when necessary.
